Ritual Spotlight

Andy Warhol

Every morning between 1976 and 1987, Andry Warhol had a phone call with his friend and amanuensis Pat Hackett around 9 am to dictate the previous day’s events. These calls could last up to two hours, after which Warhol would shower, get dressed, and take his two dachshunds downstairs to the kitchen for breakfast.

Rituals are specific and often structured. Dictating his diary was, for Warhol, a repetitive act of reflection.
